LITTLE WONDER 6120C

Posted by Unknown

If you ask me about this phone i would say i discovered it,because it silently entered the market without much marketing campaign, though before buying it i had surfed a lot reading reviews in the blogs, and decided to get one .
My previous phone was nokia 6600 so i knew pros and cons of the symbian platform.
when i first got the physical touch of  the phone i was a little disappointed with the looks,a simple candy bar design, shiny surface very much prone to finger prints, little 2 inch screen, hard keypad, build quality above average,in fact i felt like returning it.as you can see my standby phone Motorola c168 an ordinary GSM phone quite identical to 6120c :(
Not so excited i turned on the phone,it took less than 10 sec to boot,WOW surprised i was,the screen was super crisp i ever saw on a phone, for a while i thought if it was a dummy phone because it was so stationary,so true to life, smooth fonts were so easy to read in small screen.
Now comes the real test the Menu button God it was so fast menu came in a blink of eye with beautiful icons.by the way the vendor told me that this model is good for browsing, actually my main intention was browsing on the go as i have a flat GPRS plan from my operator,i fired up the browser, and i surfed and surfed and opened sites one after another, even pages with the most complex ed layout showed brilliantly and know what?
i barely browse on my laptop any more but only when i have to type a lot of text
even that could be done with a bluetooth keyboard.
about the call quality i have one word, its simply good, the loud speaker was loud enough in a noisy traffic jam, don't need bluetooth ear piece any more.some people have complained about handset getting hot after a 20 min call,it is true to some extent but i call it warm not HOT,it does gets hot if you are on a Internet call i.e. fring (this lets you make calls over gprs)i recommend using handsfree when using fring even my N95 gets so hot if using fring.
In Pakistan,a cellphone becomes a hit if it had a great camera, FM radio and  loud speakers,in my opinion even the greatest camera phones i.e. SONY ERRICSON cannot compete a traditional standalone camera,so if you are a fan of photography get a digital camera for yourself,u can find very easily 3 MP used camera well under  $75 to satisfy your photographer.
6120c takes good pictures in day light but grainy in room conditions, surprisingly videos are crispy in both conditions and you can make hours of videos with sound if loaded with 2gb card.(some guys have reported using 6gb cards successfully)but 2gb is recommended so as not to hamper the performance of the device.radio is a added topping for FM fans, but i dont like the idea of attaching headset to listen the radio, headset actualy serves as a antenna for reception.i normally listen to online radio sevices to drain my operator. lol.
A full charge which takes around 75 min gives me  full day back up (surfing most of the time) and internet activity does eats a lot of battery,a normal usage (only phone calls) can survive 4 days but a lot depends on individual preferences.
6120C has MINI USB, bluetooth.... infra is not present and i dont miss it either
what about you?Yes i do miss 3G as this little creature can actually surf lightning fast up to 14mbps if you are on a 3G network,my operator is without it :(  and if you hook up your 6120 to the laptop for surfing it will definitely outplay any fastest broadband connection, besides 3g it also offers UMTS and CDMA and of course GSM,you can turn off dual network mode and stay on gsm to save battery power when you know that 3G is not available.with all these network capabilities phone can be used any where in the world.
unfortunately 6120c lacks a built in GPS and WIFI otherwise it would have blown away every competitor, sure you can get bluetooth gps device separately and if you want to surf wirelessly there is a free software GNUBOX which let u take advantage of your PC internet via bluetooth.
My Dad owns a n95 and always seeks my service if something goes wrong,so i can tell for sure that CPU wise both devices are equal
i.e. both 369 Mhz,but n95 have WIFI and GPS and infrared too.
both share the same screen resolution but 6120c being small in size produces much sharp results.
There has been a lot of improvement in the new symbian also called 3rd edition, but nokia has imposed a restriction of obtaining certificate to be able to run the apps on your device,Nokia has received much criticism for making this certificate thingy so complicated, even geeks are knocked out sometimes trying to get a certificate.Symbian sign should make it user friendly.
Well, if you are on a budget then this is the handset for you with all the bells and rings and advanced features which no other mobile offers its a steal.i  got mine  in pakistan karachi(made in hungary)1 year warranty with 256 mb card and hands free for mere $220,what else can you ask for,it is said that it had the cheapest launch price for a S60 phone.
In karachi mobile snatching is a common scene, with this candy bar phone iam always relaxed as it does'nt draws any attention.
Its going to be another hit after 3310 6230 6600 cheers Nokia.
